(only slightly) Truncated Map of Rhode Island Heritage Corridors are tricky things. The National Park Service doesn’t actually own or manage anything within the corridor; it just lends it name and sometimes resources to the existing towns, privately owned historical sites and attractions that reside there.

Back in April of 2004, we stopped at several places along the Blackstone River Valley NHC, such as the Slater Mill Historic Site in Pawtucket, R.I. NPS calls this corridor the “Birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution.” Most of their present-day efforts are spent undoing the damage done by this historical point in time. These include making the Blackstone River suitable for swimming and fishing by 2015 and creating a 48-mile bike path that links Providence, R.I. and Worcester, Mass.

Unbeknownst to Gab, she has actually spent a great deal of time within this NPS Site – Brown University and most of downtown Providence, R.I. create the southern anchor of the Blackstone Valley. How about that?
