Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site
St. Louis, Mo.
Visited: Sometime Soon
NPS Site Visited: Not There Yet
NPS Website

The U.S. Grant National Historic Site is just south of St. Louis , easily accessible from I-270 or I-44. Easy, that is, unless there is a major accident or traffic jam along either of these major arteries.

That’s what happened to us in July 2004. A late start and a long delay on the road talked us into skipping this Site and heading straight to Uncle Dave’s house and the promise of pizza in Columbia , Mo. We had already decided to come back to the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial; what’s another St. Louis stop?

At the time, we were contemplating returning during football season to catch a St. Louis Rams game. Given their losing record so far this year, Gab recommends that we wait until spring.

Which might be great timing: a new Visitor Center recently opened, new exhibits were installed in the Main House and outbuildings, and a new interpretive museum is scheduled to open early 2007. Serendipity.
